In the 18th and 19th Centuries Bermondsey was a bustling industrial centre due to the growth of the leather trade. Bermondsey’s tanning pits used a supply of water from the Thames and the river was used as a motor to power the tanneries.
50 Bermondsey Street was home to a tannery for many years until the collapse of the river trade following World War II in the 1960s, where the building sat derelict for many years.
The redevelopment of Bermondsey came in the 1980s. 50 Bermondsey Street became a chocolate factory until 1992 when it became Delfina Studios, a restaurant and gallery space.
In 2013 Camm and Hooper took over the space. The space was refurbished by Russell Sage Studios into an old-fashioned gymnasium inspired bar, restaurant and events space.
