Are you ready to get Max Normal

Reported by *antixa* / Submitted 21-05-08 20:44

Normal as a state of mind is highly overrated. Meet a ‘normal’ person and you’re more likely to be bored to death with their tales of Eastenders and over large heads on their pints than regaled with yarns of daring challenges and never to be repeated moments. But what happens when you turn normal on its head and egg it up? Rapper Max Normal might just appear to confuse yet amuse you!

The South African rap phenomenon launches his much anticipated (though perhaps slightly feared) new CD; Good Morning South Africa, with a Nationwide tour. Once again the legend is continuing his reign as Cult leader to the ears of the South African people and the Cape flats. HarderFaster sent reporter Ant to talk with him about the Cult, the people, the things and the places.

Greetings Max Normal.

Hi there HarderFaster.

For the few of us to whom you aren’t a house-hold name yet, could you please elaborate on your cult leader accomplishments and what your tour around South Africa is all about?

MaxNormal.TV makes South African rap music. Our style is dark, funny, clever and sexy.

There are 4 people in the MaxNormal.TV rap super crew:

Wild and crazy, psycho-genius rapper: Max Normal aka WAD:e.

Fresh, futuristik Afrikaans rapper: Yo-landi Visser aka Bokkie.

Psychedelic gangster rapper: Neon Don aka Duppie.
And the enigmatic hip hop beat monster DJ Justin.

There are also some other guest rappers who feature with MaxNormal.TV from time to time:

Hot, gay, body-building rapper: 2PLY from Soweto.

The young rapper/hypnotist: PANGA THA BOY WANDA.

Romantic Afrikaans super-star rapper: JACK PAROW

MaxNormal.TV has just finished our new big rap album Good Morning South Africa!

We're launching this album with a bog rap tour, that starts next week.

I really dig your show, MaxNormal.TV. Where and why did it start and how long have you been riding the cult movement?

I started the MaxNormal.TV cult about 3 years ago. My first disciple was Yo-landi Visser. When she joined the MaxNormal.TV cult she tatooed herself on her arm with a needle melted into a bic pen and some zombie ink. The tatoo says 'PRETTY WISE'. I think it looks quite hardcore.

Hardcore, yes. Bokkie rocks.

Which artists are you influenced by – and who’s your favourite local artist(s)?

At the moment I'm influenced by myself and the visions I have of the future. I am going to present these visions to the general public in the form of a full-length feature film called:

DIE ANTWOORD, which is Afrikaans for The Answer. Me and my best friend Yo-landi Visser are going to be writing, directing, producing, starring-in and creating the soundtrack to the film. DIE ANTWOORD is all about a mentally unstable rave rapper called WAD:e who returns home to his little conservative Afrikaans home town after a long time away. WAD:e's open-minded approach to life and unusual sense of fashion begins to upset the inhabitants of his secluded little home town. The situation worsens when WAD:e starts hanging out with the pretty little girl next door, Natsi Viljoen. Natsi (short for Natasha) leaves innocent behind as WAD:e opens her mind and introduces her to the dark side.

My favourite local artists are Jack Parow and Jaak Paarl.

I’ve noticed that your sidekick, Yo-landi is fond of VJ-ing naked men onto rather large projectors. Is this a strategy, for the music, or should we organize her a date?

If you look a little closer you will notice that the naked bodybuilders in Yo-landi's visuals are all homosexual. Yo-landi's boyfriend is currently doing some time in Pollsmoor prison. He's getting out at the end of the month. I think it's best if you don't try organize her a date please, as he gets very jealous.

I really like your dressing nous – is it a cult classic style?

I've actually changed my dress style yesterday. I got bored of my suit, it was way too Clarke Kent. My new style is totally Next Level.

I'll be rocking this new style for the first during MaxNormal.TV's Big Rap Tour.

Cant wait!

Where can fans get your music and can we expect any DVDs on the way?

Our new Good Morning South Africa albums are going to be available exclusively from our live shows to start with. I have inserted a hand-written good luck note into the first 1000 copies. Yo-landi is also making some MNTV DVD's which feature rare cult movies by MaxNormal.TV. Yo-landi will only be giving these DVD's to people she likes.

What made you decide to record this album? I think it’s because of fights in bars with farmer-like people.

I'm not sure what you are talking about!
